The programme of Mapping out your road as a science professional is facilitated by two PhD graduates who started their careers in research. When they took the leap and applied their PhD skills outside research, it resulted in unexpected but successful and rewarding career paths.
Ralph Rousseau Meulenbroeks (PhD, MSc) combined a university physics degree with conservatoire double-bass studies, graduating ‘cum laude’ in both. He finished his PhD in plasma physics at Eindhoven University of Technology and worked as a researcher at Shell, Océ and FOM (now part of NWO).
Chiat Cheong (PhD) studied Biomedical Science at Leiden University. After graduation, she did her PhD on cancer gene therapy at the Université Libre de Bruxelles and her postdoc at Queen Mary’s University of London.
